Artist meticulously hand painted colorful characters, text, uses, history, health benefits and folklore on four 3 1/4″ tall glass spice jars. The beautiful gift box with “Season’s Greetings” design is also inside the interior of the box and inside the lid. Attached lock top lids with rubber seals. Acrylic paints on glass sprayed with a clear varnish for a glossy finish. Tough glass containers for their size!
Basil is hand painted in bright green letters against a black background for a high contrast. Above, is a bowl of tomato soup and gnocchi which depict some of the uses of Basil in cuisine. A gradient from burnt sienna to a bright yellow serve as a striking background color. The ancient royals loved to put basil in unguent bath water as the little character in a purple tub reveals. A loyal servant attends to all bathing needs. Detailed leaves and a dried form are rendered against a white background. Known as the “king of the herbs” and “herb of Mars”, basil used in a bowl of pesto and fettuccini.
Oregano is derived from the Greek phrase “Joy of the Mountains” which is in white text against a deep maroon background. The herb’s name is hand painted in bright green letters against a black background. Above, is a dish of lemon chicken. The ancient Chinese used the herb for many ailments as shown by a “physician” dispensing the spice to an ailing patient with itchy skin. Hippocrates also revered the valuable herb as an antiseptic and aide for stomach aches. Detailed leaves of basil are hand painted against a white background.
Rosemary is known as “dew of the sea” and is from the mint family as text shows against an ultramarine background. The herb’s name is in bright, bold green letters against a black background. The sprig and dried forms are rendered against a white background. An Aphrodite character is blazing orange-red hair emerges from the sea with the herb draping all around her. Text and little bowls depict uses of Rosemary in stuffing, tarts, soup and roasted meats. Last, but never least, is a Middle Ages couple adoring one another as Rosemary considered to be a love charm.
Thyme is of the essence as a little green goblin dangles the “time”. Text informs that the herb contains the compound, Thymol which is the active ingredient in some natural hand sanitizers. Very handy, especially in 2020! A smiling and sleeping Middle Ages maiden is having sweet dreams because the herb was placed beneath her pillow. It was believed to ward off nightmares. A stately knight and his steed hold Thyme because it was a strong symbol of courage. Thyme leaves are hand painted against a white background. The herb’s name is rendered in bright green letters against a black background for high impact.
HAND CLEAN ONLY the insides with a little soap on a damp cloth. Do not put the glass jars in the dishwasher as the rubber seals will melt and compromise the hand painted images.
